Sawyer Keys Wildlife Management Area

About 22 miles northeast of Key West, this series of islands east of Johnston Key Channel are dissected by shallow, tidal creeks. They harbor nesting ospreys (Pandion haliaetusem) and are used by 11 species of wading birds. Seventy-six acres of tidal creeks on the south side of the islands are no entry year-round with vessels restricted from using most of the site. The northwest side of the largest island is privately owned.
