Big Mullet Wildlife Management Area
Big Mullet Key is one of three mangrove islands 9 miles northwest of Key West within the Key West National Wildlife Refuge. No-motor buffer zones of 300 feet surround Big Mullet Key and Cottrell Key, with a 300-foot no-access buffer zone around the nearby Little Mullet Key to protect wildlife. The island harbors nesting great white herons (Ardea herodias), a variety of other wading birds, and mangrove terrapins (Malaclemys terrapin rhizophorarum).
