Happy Jack Key Wildlife Management Area

A small, bayside island located north of Sugarloaf Key, named after 1850’s pineapple farmer “Happy Jack” Jonathan Thompson, whose life ended when he tripped a booby-trapped gun meant for deer that were damaging his crops. Also known as Galdin Key, this 15-acre no entry area will decrease disturbance of wading bird foraging habitat and nesting reddish egret and great white heron.
