Barnes-Card Sound Wildlife Management Area
The northernmost wildlife management area (WMA), 1.1-square miles in size and located off Card Sound Road in the Upper Keys, just past Crocodile Lake WMA. This no motor zone covers just over one square mile of very shallow bay, decreasing disturbance to nesting and wading birds and shallow water gamefish. It also protects the benthic community, including seagrass and macroalgae, where a monitoring program has existed since the mid-2000s. Shallow seagrass flats exhibit light-to-severe prop scarring.
Special regulations apply here. Learn more about what activities are allowed in this type of zone.
