Pelican Shoal Wildlife Management Area
This small rubble area 6 miles southeast of Boca Chica Key was an important nesting site for birds until recent hurricanes washed away most of the island. In recent years, however, this area has been reestablished as an important bird nesting site.
A 300-foot no entry zone is designed to protect and support the reestablishment of this area as a nesting site. The shoal area has been closed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission since 1990 as a Critical Wildlife Area.
Special regulations apply here. Learn more about what activities are allowed in this type of zone.
