Pigeon Key Wildlife Management Area

Not to be confused with the island nestled under the original Seven Mile Bridge, this donut-shaped, mangrove island is located just offshore Tavernier in the Upper Keys. A 52-acre rectangle has been drawn around the island to protect mangrove terrapins, mangrove salt marsh snakes, nesting wading birds including roseate spoonbills (Platalea ajaja), and roosting magnificent frigatebirds in a very important wading bird nesting area.
